Advocacy

We champion policies that protect the Right to Food and create fair, inclusive food systems. Our advocacy work focuses on:

  • Consumer Protection – Campaigning against harmful food practices, unsafe products, and deceptive marketing.

  • Policy Reform – Promoting laws and frameworks that guarantee food security, land rights, and fair wages for farmers and fishers.

  • Equity in Food Systems – Addressing gender, youth, and community inequalities in access to resources and decision-making.

  • Climate Action Advocacy – Driving climate-resilient agriculture policies to protect farmers, ecosystems, and communities.

  •  Institutional Meals & Nutrition Standards – Advocating for healthy, sustainable meals in schools, hospitals, and public institutions, ensuring dignity and nutrition for all.

Education & Capacity Building

We empower communities, food producers, and food workers with knowledge and skills that advance food justice. Our approach includes:

  • Agroecology & Sustainable Farming Training – Building farmer capacity for resilient, climate-smart, and ethical food production.

  • Nutrition & Right to Food Education – Creating awareness on healthy diets, food safety, and the legal and social dimensions of the right to food.

  • Food Worker Skills Development – Offering training for food workers on fair labor practices, safe handling, and dignified workplace standards.

  • Youth & Grassroots Leadership Workshops – Strengthening the capacity of young people and grassroots organizations to actively transform food systems.

Research and Knowledge Sharing

We generate and share evidence-based insights that inform policy, community action, and sustainable practices. Our research efforts include:

  • Understanding Food Systems – Mapping how production, markets, and consumption interact to uncover gaps and solutions for equity and resilience.

  • Advancing Agroecology – Generating evidence on climate-smart farming, soil regeneration, and biodiversity to support sustainable agricultural transitions.

  • Improving Nutrition through Value Addition – Studying diet quality, food safety, and local processing innovations that enhance nutrition security and rural incomes.

  • Turning Research into Action – Translating findings into policy briefs, documentaries, toolkits, and community dialogues that inspire real-world change.

Building a Movement

We believe food justice requires collective power. IFJAD works to mobilize communities and networks that drive systemic change by:

  • Grassroots Organizing – Supporting local farmers, fisherfolk, and women’s groups to amplify their voices.

  • Youth Engagement – Building a strong youth movement for sustainable food systems and leadership in agroecology.

  • Food Culture Preservation – Promoting indigenous cuisines, traditional knowledge, and cultural food heritage

  • Coalition Building – Partnering with civil society, academia, and community organizations for policy influence and collective action.
